Apple picks Gemini as the foundation of its AI models (2026)

In a joint statement published on January 12, 2026, Google and Apple announced a multi-year partnership under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Gemini models and Google's cloud technology. The models will power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri expected in 2026. According to the statement, Apple Intelligence keeps running on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, under Apple's privacy standards.
